Fencing is one of the most accessible industries for start-up businesses and novice laborers to get into. For these people looking to make a few extra dollars installing fences, a shovel, a level, and a string line may be all they need.

As a result, there are many individuals and/or companies who show up in Lancaster County PA, install residential fences for a short time, and then disappear. We see it all the time. Beware! You only want to work with a fully licensed and insured fencing contractor in Lancaster County PA.

Here are some of the main pitfalls of working with non-professionals:

  1. The Residential Fence Warranty is Void
If the individual or company that installed your residential fence is no longer in business, the workmanship warranty on the fence and the gates is worthless. Additionally, some manufacturers won't warranty their fence material if it was improperly installed or damaged during installation. Both situations are common with non-professionals.

  2. The Fence Almost Certainly Won't Last As Long
As a professional fence company, our team of installers undergoes rigorous training and constant professional supervision. Our dedication to improving our skills, knowledge of the best fencing materials, and best fence installation techniques maximizes the strength and life of your fence. Companies that install fences as something they do "on the side" usually have no idea how much they don't know about residential fencing or what is best for you and your property.

  3. Your Property May be at Risk
Installing residential fence in the Lancaster County PA area is actually somewhat risky. Sudden, harsh weather during the fence installation can blow materials and damage your home. We've seen concrete splatter onto cars or drip down beautiful driveways or walkways as buckets of wet concrete are transported. Deep tire tracks sinking into your grass is another common issue. The secondary damage to homes and yards is common when untrained labor installs the fence.

Additionally, you are at risk if anyone gets hurt on your property while they are working. If you hire an unlicensed or uninsured contractor, you may be liable and your homeowner's insurance may deny payment!

At first glance, hiring a novice to install your fence may save you a few dollars, but in the long run, it is almost certainly a price you cannot afford to pay!

Traditionally, farm fencing is wood post and rail fencing, split rail fences, or high tensile fences. Welded wire can be added to post and rail fences for specific small animal yards. There are variations of each type based on what you need to enclose. Our team of fence experts is happy to discuss your specific needs and find the perfect solution for your Lancaster County PA property.

Chain link fences must stand up to the physical demands of the Lancaster County PA weather, and physical abuse from falling branches, landscapers, neighbors, animals, and more.

Chain link fencing requires almost no attention or maintenance. We recommend clearing debris away from the bottom of the fence and maybe a quick squirt of the hose every once in a while.

PVC-coated chain link fencing, also known as vinyl coated chain link fencing, is the attractive colored coating that can be added to chain link fencing. More than a simple color choice, vinyl coating your chain link fence increases the rust and corrosion resistance of the fence and extends the life of your fence.

Vinyl Fence FAQs

Yes! We are a leading vinyl fencing contractor across the entire Lancaster County PA area.

Our crews are experienced and specially trained in the latest techniques for installing vinyl fences, ensuring your fence is installed properly, will look great, function properly, and will hold up to the harsh weather typical of Lancaster County PA.

Vinyl fencing is a popular option for homes and businesses in the Lancaster County PA region. Vinyl fences are strong enough to stand up to the harsh weather conditions of Lancaster County PA.

Vinyl fencing requires nearly zero maintenance. Over time vinyl fencing is actually a less expensive fencing material than many of the other alternatives in terms of time and cost savings of paints that wood fences require.

If a maintenance-free, clean and modern looking fence is what you want, look no further than vinyl fencing.

Vinyl lasts a long time, so you don't have to generate or consume as many new resources to replace it, and it can be recycled after you're done with it. There's no need to paint it or treat it with other chemicals. Vinyl fencing is one of the most eco-friendly alternatives available.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the plastic most often used to make a vinyl fence, ranks third among the world's most manufactured synthetic plastics. Beautiful fences in a number of designs may be made from it, but it also has many other applications in the building industry, including in windows, pipelines, and other items.

Vinyl fencing is one of the most eco-friendly alternatives available.

Vinyl lasts a long time, so you don't have to generate or consume as many new resources to replace it, and it can be recycled after you're done with it. Recycled vinyl fencing is often used in the next generation of new vinyl fences, making it a great option for those who are environmentally aware!

Another huge benefit to your immediate environment and to the health of your family and pets is that vinyl fencing does not require harsh cleaners, or paint, or sealers, all of which may contain harsh or even toxic chemicals.

PVC, the material used to make vinyl fences, is nonporous, therefore it does not readily accept paint. When it comes to fences, many Lancaster County PA residents select vinyl specifically because it never needs painting or staining or sealing. Unlike wood fences, vinyl fences retain their original color and shine for the duration of their life span.

So, while vinyl fences can't be painted, there are a number of different colors and styles available to customize your fence to match your home and your personal style preferences.

DIY Fence Estimate

If you'd like to get a rough idea on your own about how much fencing you will need, follow these easy steps:

  • If you happen to know the dimensions of the area you wish to enclose, simply add the length of each side together. Use a tape measure. Rough estimates are fine, there is no need to be too precise, this is just a rough estimate at this point.
  • Be sure to subtract the length of any structures (like a building or a storage shed that will serve as part of the barrier). This will give you a rough estimate as to how much fencing you will need.
  • An additional step to get greater accuracy for the amount of wood fencing you will need, is to also subtract the length of any gates you will be using. The gates are often priced much differently than the fencing is. For this reason we usually recommend to property owners who are looking to develop their own fence estimate, to list the gates separately. A standard wood walk gate is approx 4 feet wide and a standard wood drive gate can easily be 10 feet wide or more.

Caution!

Wood fencing is priced and sold by SECTIONS, not by linear feet! Even when the linear footage is included specifically on price estimates ... the total number of wood fence sections is a factor in this pricing. So, "price per linear foot" is only a rough estimate and rarely represents the actual cost of the finished wood fence!

This is a very interesting difference that we would love to explore and explain to you if you'd like to speak with one of our fence experts further. Be aware, "price per linear foot" is a ploy that many unprofessional fence installers in the Lancaster County PA area use!

Wood fencing is unique in its ability to be utilized for such a wide array of applications. Listed below are some of the most popular applications of wood fencing:

  • Decorative Wood Fencing
There are many decorative styles of wood fencing, perfect for showcase areas of a property or to set-off a section of your yard. Wood rail fences and wood picket fences are two of the most common decorative styles of wood fencing.
  • Wood Pool Fencing
Wood fencing is a perfect choice for the perimeter of a property to provide privacy for pool areas. We generally do not recommend wood fencing directly adjacent to the pool itself due to the high moisture content in the air. This moisture can cause the fence to deteriorate more rapidly than normal.
  • Wood Perimeter Fencing
Wood fencing is the staple of privacy fences. Popular across Lancaster County PA, a 6 foot dogear wood privacy fence is quite possibly the single-most requested fence we install.

Every local municipality in Lancaster County PA has a separate set of requirements when it comes to building permits, and that includes wood fencing. Sometimes the specific height of the fence or placement of the fence or purpose of the fence can impact the need for a permit. There are also HOA considerations in some areas.

We have installed many wood fences in just about every possible area across Lancaster County PA so we are happy to answer these sorts of questions and/or to guide you through the process for your specific situation. This is one of the benefits of working with us!

The best way to get specific answers quickly and accurately is to simply call your town building code office.
